Review: Mac lipstick

in Viva Glam Gaga

I first found out about this lipstick through another blog, but I had been wanting a really light baby pink for absolutely ages. After seeing it on the blog I went shopping with two of my friends and when we walked past mac I couldn't resist.

This has a 'lustre' finish to it which basically means it gives a gorgeous shine and catches the light. The packaging to this product is so lovely, it comes in a black box with a red Lady Gaga signature written across the writing and then has a little Lady Gaga signature on body. Normally they have silver bodies and 'mac' written on the lid in silver but due to this being a special edition it is in red. I really like this attention to detail although the pink of the lipstick does however clash with the red body... The colour is really pigmented and super glossy.

It applies really nicely to my lips and the pointed top makes it very easy to do precise application. I really love the colour and it's also super moisturizing.

It costs £13.50 and is very pricey for a lipstick and I'm not completely blown away with this so if I can't find a cheaper version then I would be willing to buy it again but would rather spend less. This is one of the most expensive lipsticks I've ever brought, just being over taken by a benefit silky-finish one. All in all I am very happy with this product and am excited to wear it lots this month, it's a perfect wintery colour, with the snow and all! Which sadly I haven't been able to go out in because I'm ill :(

Now can't wait for the Nicki Minaj 'Pink Friday' release..

Is it snowing where you are?

Review: Maybelline Dream Nude Airfoam Foundation

in Fawn 040

This product is just so cool, when I first saw an advert for it I knew I had to try it out! I wasn't expecting much, it was going to be more of a fun product and when I found it in Superdrug for a discounted price I bought it before I could change my mind.

At first when you spray it out an absolute mass comes onto your hands so it's extremely hard to fine the right shade and takes whole load of baby wipes, but once you get the hang of it you can get out a small size amount. This product has to be applied with fingers as a sponge doesn't give any coverage and is very hard to blend. So for this reason when I first used it I really didn't like it but after trying it with my fingers it worked really well for me.

One thing you have to watch out for with this product is that it dries a different colour to what is in the bottle, so if you don't work it right up to the hair line and down your neck then you'll get really bad tide lines, trust me I have suffered from this with this product and it's not pretty! This doesn't dry with a liquid finish however it dries more like a powder so is totally buildable without looking cakey which is really good!

Before:

After:

All in all it retails at £8.99 and isn't heavy on the skin or cakey yet gives great coverage as well as been super cool and fun to apply! I would definitely buy this again and is a great 'weekend' foundation.

Have you tried a foam foundation before? What did you think?

Finally thought I'd show you my background on my phone that I am in love with !! I love anything horsey and am a crazy keen rider so when I saw this I had to set it as my background! (Took it a few days ago that's why the date is wrong)

Review: Gilly Hicks Lipcolor

in Dahlia

One of my friends actually got me this for my birthday and it's literally my new go-to lip product, I wear it every single day. I had always looked at Gilly Hick's makeup but never brought any and I wasn't expecting getting any for my birthday but I'm so glad I did.

The lipgloss is such a nice 'natural' lip pinky red and has really fine glitter in it which isn't even noticeable at first. The colour comes out really pigmented but not too strong and over powering so it's also really sheer at the same time. It smells amazing, of like a mixture of sugar, fudge and toffee and it also tastes so good. The gloss lasts about half an hour and the colour lasts about an hour so for a lipgloss that's pretty average. It's packaging is so nice and sleek and looks really high-end and classy. The colour is very similar to Bloom's lip gloss in Girlie just with a little extra glitter.

And compared to Bloom's Girlie:

Overall it costs £12 but you can get them on a 2 for £10 offer which doesn't even make sense because then who would only buy one? I would definitely buy this product again and again, I love it and it is part of my daily routine now and I can't do my everyday makeup without it!

Have you tried any Gilly Hicks Makeup? What did you think?

Monthly Favorites: January

Okay so this is the first in a series of blogs that I'm going post monthly on the products that I have loved and used for the majority of the month (so that means if I have got products right at the end of the month sadly no matter how good they are they won't be shown in this). So my first group of products I've loved are my lip products.

Left to Right, Gilly Hicks Lipcolor in Dahlia, Mac Dazzleglass in Glitter and Ice, L'Oreal Intense Lipstick in Pink Passion, Laqa & Co Fat Lip Pencil in Wolfman, Lush Lip Scrub in Bubblegum

I chose the Gilly Hicks Lipcolor because I wear this literally everyday and it's such a great natural lip colour, it matches my lips so well!! I got the mac dazzleglass for christmas and love, love, love it, I love nudes in makeup and this is such a great nudey-beige lipgloss with the bonus amazing glitter. I chose this L'Oreal Lipstick as it is such a great bright colour for going out and giving a bit of POP to your look, it's also super creamy and moisturizing. I also got the Laqa and Co Lip Pencil for christmas and I love it, as well as nudes in makeup, I love really light pinks like this, although this lip pencil isn't very hard wearing and smells quite funny. Finally I threw the Lush Lipscrub in here because it smells aaamazing and is made of sugar so it is totally edible, it just gets your lips so super smooth and chap free.
Next up, face products.

Left to right, Collection 2000 lasting perfection concealer in Light, Mac mineralize skinfinish natural in Light Plus,Garnier BB cream in Light

Left to right, Garnier BB Cream, Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, Collection 2000 lasting perfection concealer

These products I have used pretty much everyday without a doubt during the whole of January and they are all actually products brought newly in January! The concealer is the best concealer I have ever used and if you can I strongly advise you to get your hands on this little monster as you won't regret it! The powder is so nice and smooth, if not a shade a tad to light for my skin, but still gives great light coverage results for everyday wear. Finally the Garnier BB cream is just so nice and is basically a tinted moisturizer but with that little extra 'kick' and again great for everyday light coverage results.
Next, cheeks.

Nars Blush in Super Orgasm
I only have one cheek product this month which is a blusher which is actually surprising because I have been obsessed with blushers lately. I brought one right at the beginning which was awful (check bottom of this post) and then I got this and I also really want two from mac and one from sleek but it's never in stock... and the mac ones are expensive so I have to think about it before making the investment. This blush is so nice and shimmery but I just wish the blusher's glitter transferred onto my cheeks better!  This colour is a tad to bold for every day use but great for weekends.
Finally, here are my favorite eye products.

They're Real Benefit Mascara, Mac paint pot in Painterly, Mac eyeshadow in Charcoal Brown Matte
Left to right, Mac eyeshadow in Charcoal Brown Matte and Mac Paint Pot in Painterly

The Benefit Mascara, They're Real, is their latest addition to their collection and is so nice. I, as I have mentioned so many times, am so picky about mascaras and this one is really nice, it gives me great definition and length, I love it! I have worn it literally everyday this month. These other two eyeshadows are so great especially together and I will definitely be doing an Eye of the Day with them soon!

Now sadly for my Worst products...

Left to Right, Maybelline Expertwear Blush in Rosewood, Benefit High Beam, L'Oreal Concealer in Vanilla

Okay so firstly the Maybelline blusher is awful!! It has absolutely no pigmentation what so ever and doesn't even show up on my skin...I don't even know how they can sell a product like this.... definitely a hate of January! Secondly the L'Oreal concealer is just really bad and doesn't give you any coverage, it also doesn't have a peachy undertone so will not match anyones skin tone... Finally Benefit High Beam, now I felt like this had to have a mention in this post somewhere, however I've only discovered a way to make this product work and give results right at the end of the month so haven't liked it for long enough to really be able to put in my favorites part. Although before I found out this method of application I absolutely hated this product so I thought I should put it in worst products, I'm sure you'll be seeing it in next months favorites however so don't worry!

Review: Garnier B.B. Cream Miracle Skin Perfector

in Light

Now I'm sure you have all heard about B.B. cream as it has been the craze of the moment lately. It has been a huge hit in Asia and has recently been brought to the UK and America where it has been an instant best seller. B.B stands for blemish balm and the cream is meant to 'even tone and boost glow, blur imperfections, smooth lines, give 24hr hydration, and has SPF 15'   It has a recommended age use of between under 20 to 40 and is basically a tinted moisturizer but with that little extra..boost.

It comes in a 50ml small tube which fits into a makeup bag perfectly. I did however think it being this size would mean it would run out quickly but I've had it over three weeks now and have worn it pretty much everyday and it hasn't shown any signs of running out anytime soon. It has a peachy tone to it (check out my concealer review where I expressed the importance for this here) so it blends in with my skin tone really well. It only has a very light coverage so it won't hide any blemishes but it will cover any kind of blotchy-ness on your skin and dull the redness of those spots. It just gives you a really nice overall even skin-tone and with a small bit of concealer you cant go wrong. This being called 'blemish balm' however led me to believe it would help get rid of my spots and be better for my skin then foundation but  it hasn't really helped that, my existing spots haven't gone (yes they haven't gotten bigger either) and I have gained yet more smaller spots. So I do believe on the skin front it's better to use my mac powder although this does give me a guilty-free feeling and it is very moisturizing so I'm drawn between the two! Which should I wear on a everyday basis?? Heeelp

In these pictures (before and after) it doesn't really show much difference but in real life my skin looks a lot smoother and even and I have a much healthier skin tone.

Before:

 After:

This product costs around £7.49 and I don't actually know if I would buy it again, yes its good and has done what it says it's meant to on the box but I don't know if prefer powder then tinted moisturizer so I'm a bit drawn between two products at the moment. It does have a good staying power but you will need to top up on concealer if you want a day long flawless coverage.

Have any of you tried bb cream? What did you think?

Review: Nars Blush

In Super Orgasm

I know you have all heard of Nars Orgasm as it has been the craze blush of the year, everyone has been raving about. A couple of weeks ago I went shopping and saw it in SpaceNK, I asked the assisant if I could buy it so she went and got one for me and wrapped it up in a little bag for me. Sadly when I got home I found out she had actually given me super orgasm. I wasn't too upset though because they are so similar.

I loved this colour because it was so shimmery and glittery but sadly the glitter doesn't actually transfer onto my cheeks that well so it isn't actually glittery when worn. It is however very pigmented which is good and I absolutely love the packaging. Nars have such nice sleek matte black cases which is just so classy and nice. It is a very strong colour so can only really be worn when going out or on special occasions and is a very summery colour so it makes me so excited for july when I just look at it.

As you can see there is no glitter on my cheeks which is so disappointing.

In all it costs £20.50 and I don't think I'll be buying it again but I definitely want to try 'orgasm' when this one runs out. Don't get me wrong though, I love this blusher its such a nice colour and lasting effect but I just wish the glitter actually came through onto my cheeks.

Do you know any good glitter blushes?

Review: Benefit Watt's Up

I first found out about this when I went to my friend's house and one of my friends was doing her make up there and I asked her what it was and she said 'try it out, you'll like it! Just put it on your cheek bones and blend with the smugger' and passed it to me. I put it on and at first didn't really see much difference but as soon as my cheeks hit the light they had such a nice shimmery champagne glow to them. So I went home and put it on my christmas list and my granny actually gave it to me for my birthday.

So it basically is a 'soft focus highlighter' and is in the most gorgeous shimmery champagne colour. It also comes with a small round sponge on the bottom, which, for a built in makeup tool, is surprisingly good, it's so soft and bouncy. I love the packaging for this product, its so nice and not too 'glarey' as some benefit products can be. It's in fact very tasteful. It is very pigmented and sososososo shimmery which I LOVE. It's also very easy to apply and quick, just glide and blend. I apply mine along my cheek bones, along and above my temples and lightly on my brow bones. It does exactly what it is meant to do and I  give it very high creds. It does however give a quite dark/mid tone highlight, due to it being a champagne colour, whereas high beam gives a much brighter and lighter highlight so for the moment in the winter I'm using highbeam but in summer this will go really nicely with bronzer so I'll wear it once it gets hotter.  I've tried my hardest to photograph it's effect but it was quite hard to get the lighting right so this is the best I could do...

It retails at £24.50 and at the moment I don't know if I'd buy it again, I think I'll have to wait till the summer when I where it everyday to know. So watch out for my summer months monthly favorites and if it's in there then that will probably mean I'd buy it again if not then I probably wouldn't.

What Highlighters do you use?
